Speed up your PC by managing startup programs

March 1, 2012 by Charles Edward

An effective way to speed up PC performance is to look at what programs automatically start up when you turn on your computer. These days, computers come pre-loaded with more programs than ever before, and they all want to launch at startup.

Not only does it take extra time to boot unwanted programs, these applications also consume system resources such as CPU and memory, slowing down your computer even more!

PC TuneUp Maestro’s “Startup Manager” can help with this. By using our Startup Manager, you can choose which programs start up when you turn on your computer. Click “Manage | StartUp Management” to launch the “Startup Manager”.

Some of these programs you can launch on your own, if and when you need to use them. But what if you discover, using Startup Manager, programs you never actually use?

That’s where PC Clean Maestro comes in handy.

Make your computer faster by getting rid of “junk”

January 25, 2012 by Charles Edward

It’s a sad fact of life: no matter how fast your computer is when you first purchase it, after a few months its performance begins to fade as your computer slows down over time.

Why is this?

Your PC often stores and accumulates unwanted “junk” files and data. For example, over time your PC accumulates temporary files, leftover file remnants from uninstalled applications, log files, Windows error reports, and much more. As a result of all of these extra, unneeded files, you may find your PC runs more slowly.

As well, since all of these extra files take up space in your hard drive, your computer often has to work around them to find space to store files and programs you actually find useful.
In other words, unwanted files can actually “fragment” your computer’s hard drive, which means it can take longer for your PC to complete necessary tasks.

Designed to help you prevent identity theft and safeguard your privacy, PC Clean Maestro also removes unwanted files and data from your computer, all in order to make your PC cleaner and faster. The best part is that the Junk Removal function is FREE – no purchase is required. Continue reading...

How to free up memory on your PC

November 29, 2011 by Charles Edward

Thanks to the incredible growth in online services in recent years, paired with the ability to quickly an easily connect your home computer to your entertainment system, it’s really easy to start downloading movies from Amazon or other providers and never stop! Combine that with our tendency to take HD videos of our kids, and it all adds up to hard drives that fill up quite quickly.

So what do you do if you run out of memory on your computer?

If your hard disk is filling up, you can free up a considerable amount of memory by reducing the size of your Recycle Bin. Your Recycle Bin is where all of your “deleted” files end up, but they’re not really deleted until you, the user select “empty Recycle Bin”.

Until they, all of these old files, everything from old Word docs to very large media files stay where they are, taking up space on your hard drive.

So, to empty your Recycle Bin and free up some space:

  1. Right click on the Recycle Bin icon with your mouse, choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
  2. In Vista and Windows 7, you can enter in a maximum MB that the recycle bin can hold.

October 22, 2011 by Charles Edward

speed up pc`There are always little things you can do to speed up your PC, and help keep it running smoothly. We’re going to assume that you’re running a version of Windows 7.

Note: Some of the tools mentioned in this article require you to be logged on as an administrator. If you aren’t logged on as an administrator, you can only change settings that apply to your user account.

1. Remove spyware, protect against viruses

You’ve probably heard of the terms “spyware” and “virus”, but what are they, really? Both are malicious software programs inadvertently downloaded onto your computer from the internet. Sometimes your computer can be infected by spyware and viruses by visiting a website, and sometimes these programs can be downloaded as files. Both affect the speed of your computer. Spyware, as its name suggests, spys on your activities and personal information, such as passwords and even credit card information. Viruses are even more insidious – some wreak havoc for the sake of wreaking havoc, while other viruses may launch programs. Either way, both spyware and viruses will slow down your computer. Microsoft Security Essentials is a great tool for helping get rid of spyware and viruses.

2. Free up disk space
