\"\"<\/a>Introducing \u2013 PC Clean Maestro:<\/h2>\n

With PC Clean Maestro you can remove junk files and uninstall programs so as to free up space.\u00a0 By doing so you clear up PC clutter which can bog down the system and lead to poor system performance.\u00a0\u00a0 We will provide two sets of instructions for the Clean tool and for the Uninstaller.\u00a0 Some best practices are provided so that your experience can be simplified and more trouble-free.\u00a0 Before we begin, let\u2019s start with a best practice tip.<\/p>\n

Best Practices:<\/h2>\n

Backup!\u00a0 This article deals with removal \u2013 permanent removal \u2013 of unwanted items.\u00a0 The key is \u201cunwanted\u201d.\u00a0 We strongly recommend that you make a copy of all files that are important to you.\u00a0 The price of external hard drives makes this a no-brainer.\u00a0 Today\u2019s hard drives are often more gigabytes than the average person needs \u2013 and some are now terabyte in size (1,000 GBs).\u00a0 The added advantage of having a good backup and storage strategy is that you are working toward optimizing free space on your PC.<\/p>\n

Recommendation:<\/strong> Try out Microsoft\u2019s Sync Toy.\u00a0 This free tool makes synchronizing your files fast and easy.\u00a0 You can avoid duplication and feel assured that you haven\u2019t missed backing up all your files.<\/div>\n

The Tools:<\/h2>\n

1. The Clean Tool<\/h3>\n

There are three areas of cleaning that can take place using the Clean Tool.\u00a0 We are staying focused on the free aspects of PC Clean Maestro.\u00a0 The following instructions detail how to remove junk files from your PC.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/em>:\u00a0 First you need to open the program.\u00a0 The window will appear as seen here:<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/em>:\u00a0 Select items to clean.\u00a0 We are going to focus on junk items only so clear the checkboxes for Personal Security and Privacy.\u00a0 You can then review and select any of the items in the Junk section (Installer Files, Log Files, Temp Files, etc.). <\/strong><\/p>\n

Note: <\/strong> You can refer to the help file for instructions on how to display all the individual items that are categorized.\u00a0 You can also get information on the three state check box system.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/em>:\u00a0 Initiate the scan using the \u201cStart\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/em>:\u00a0 Review and Clean.\u00a0 A summary of the scan is displayed including the number of detected items found in each category, the size that can be reclaimed, and a \u201cDetails\u201d link.\u00a0 The link will provide the complete list of items found and the location of each item.\u00a0 You can clear any selected items before moving on to the next step.<\/p>\n

Step 5<\/em>: Clean.\u00a0 Click the \u201cClean\u201d button to permanently delete these junk items.<\/p>\n

Best Practices<\/strong>:
\nCreate an automated schedule.\u00a0 Use the Options button in the Main window and select the Clean Scan Schedule.\u00a0 From here you can configure when you want an automated scheduled scan to run.<\/p>\n

2. The Uninstaller<\/h3>\n

The second tool we are outlining in this article is designed to uninstall programs.\u00a0 As you will see, you also have the option of modifying and repairing certain applications.\u00a0 Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/em>:\u00a0 Open the program and click the \u201cUninstaller\u201d button in the navigation panel located on the left side.\u00a0 The window will appear as seen here:<\/p>\n

Step2<\/em>:\u00a0 Review the list.\u00a0 You can select items in the list and refer to the information that is displayed in the right panel.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/em>:\u00a0 Select one of the available options in the right panel.\u00a0 In some cases an application will provide the options of \u201cRepair\u201d and \u201cChange\u201d.\u00a0 If you are certain you no longer use an application you can click the \u201cUninstall\u201d button. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> This procedure cannot be undone.\u00a0\u00a0 You would need to re-install the program to restore it to your PC.<\/p>\n

Question Period:<\/h2>\n

How do I know if a program can be removed?<\/h3>\n

The rule of thumb is to only remove items you know are not required.\u00a0 For example, A third party application that is not part of the operating system and is rarely used can be removed without too much impact to you or the system.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of Windows Driver Package items in my list.\u00a0 Can I remove them?<\/h3>\n

It is best not to remove Windows drivers as this can have an impact on how your computer and peripherals function.\u00a0 In most all cases these are not large in size and you would not gain much by removing them.<\/p>\n

How do I know if a program is from a trusted source?<\/h3>\n

Select the item in the list and make sure that the manufacturer of the application (refer to the \u201cPublisher\u201d portion in the information panel on the right), is a trusted one.<\/p>\n

Best Practices:<\/h2>\n

  • Vigilance!\u00a0 Use caution when installing programs.\u00a0 Sometimes add-ons can come with programs and there are cases where you are not getting what you expect.\u00a0 Make sure to do your homework before you commit.\u00a0 Look for a digital signature from the manufacturer during installation.\u00a0 These are obtained from only a few security companies that issue digital signatures that go through rigid methods of testing. You can also perform Google searches to display objective customer reviews.\u00a0 Be careful that these are from valid sources.\u00a0 With a little effort you can better authenticate the validity of an application and the manufacturer of the program.<\/li>\n
  • We also recommend that you keep your programs up-to-date.\u00a0 Make sure to check that you are running secure programs with all the latest patches and updates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
